Quota
A notch for the Mac edge that shows, at a glance, how much of each AI coding tool's usage limit is gone - Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini and more - and whether each agent is working, done or waiting on you.
- Type
- Personal Project · macOS App / AI Tooling
- Year
- 2026–now
- Role
- Sole developer - product, design and release, built on the open-source codenotch (MIT).
Turns invisible rate limits into rings you can read in a second, warns before you hit the wall, and jumps straight to the agent session that is waiting for input.
- Every AI tool's limit in one notch
- ⌘⌥J jumps to the agent waiting on you
- Paid app with trial, licensing and updates
The problem
Working with several AI coding tools at once means hitting a usage limit mid-task without warning, and agents sitting idle because nobody noticed they were waiting for input.
One glanceable surface on the screen edge for every tool's limits and every agent's state, polished enough to sell.
What I did
- Took codenotch as the base, rebranded it as Quota and made it a real installable app with icon, launch at login and onboarding.
- Read Claude's numbers from the same source as Claude Code's own /usage, so the two never disagree, and added providers for the other tools.
- Added a build-your-own notch editor, a global shortcut that cycles through waiting sessions, licensing with a free trial and Sparkle updates.
Outcome
A paid macOS app in pre-launch: trial and licensing, an update feed, a GSAP landing page and a launch video.
